UN chief slams Israel’s West Bank annexation plan

A watershed moment that will cause the most serious violation of international law.
That is how UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described Israel’s plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
Members of the UN Security Council and the Arab League have been meeting to discuss Israel’s move – which could be put in motion as soon as next week.
Most of them were united in their opposition – with warnings that Israel’s unilateral action could trigger a major escalation in the region.
There is also some opposition from Europe. More than 1,000 politicians have signed a letter urging their leaders to stop Israel.
On the ground, in Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, there have been renewed protests against the US-backed Israeli plans.
