Thousands challenge monarchy in massive march in Bangkok

Thousands of protesters marched in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday in an open challenge to Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn, calling for reforms that would curb his powers.

Protest leaders handed police a letter detailing their demands Sunday, which the head of the Metropolitan Police Bureau said would be handed to police headquarters to decide how to proceed.

Protesters have grown bolder during two months of anti-government and anti-monarchy demonstrations, breaking a long-standing taboo of criticizing the monarchy.

On Saturday, in the biggest demonstration in Thailand in years, tens of thousands cheered calls for reform to the monarchy and demanded the removal of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.
