Sky News contributor Michael Ware says it appears as if “there could be a purge underway within the Trump administration” following the sacking of another inspector general by the president.
Mr Ware told Sky News the news broke from the White House of Friday night that the Inspector General for the Department of State had been sacked, reportedly because he instigated an investigation into Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife over alleged personal use of a political appointee.
He said Mr Pompeo reportedly asked President Trump to sack the inspector general, “next thing we know, he’s been sacked”.
“What’s most interesting in this is this is just one more sacking as part of a broader pattern,’ he said,
“Former Republican presidential candidate [Mick Romney] said this stuff is unprecedented because these inspectors are supposed to be safe havens for whistle blowers.”
