U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday discussed the importance of having the 25th amendment’s vice-presidential succession/transfer of power plan in place, stressing that her plan was not focused just on “this president” but on addressing the possibility that the commander-in-chief might become incapacitated or require “ventilation” necessitating, in her view, the importance of a clear transfer-of-power process in that event.

Pelosi also clarified her comments about the need to have a clear transfer-of-power process in place in the event the 25th amendment is invoked in the event of presidential incapacity.

The House speaker stressed these measures were not intended to target President Donald Trump only, but all future presidents, and stressed that while some medical experts have raised concerns, she “doesn’t know” if the experimental treatments Trump received as part of his COVID-19 treatment are impacting his judgement.

“The public needs to know the health condition of the president,” Pelosi said on Thursday, later invoking the 25th Amendment, which allows a president’s cabinet or Congress to intervene when a president is unable to conduct the duties of the office.
