It would be ‘an insult’ if Harris became the first US woman president: Trump

Donald Trump has told a rally in North Carolina that it would be an “insult” to America if Democratic presidential vice president candidate Kamala Harris was ever elected to the White House.

President Trump said Kamala Harris, who is the first Black woman and first Asian-American on a major-party US presidential ticket, failed in her bid to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Senator Harris withdrew from the Democratic primary race after a lack of support from the party’s base, but was selected as vice president by the eventual winner, Joe Bide.

“Kamala Harris, Kamala. Remember Kamala, she started at 15. She was supposed to win,” President Trump said.

“Problem was, she went from 15 to 14 to 12 to 10 to seven to four. It’s like a freefall.”

You know what? People don’t like her. Nobody likes her. She could never be the first woman president. She could never be. That would be an insult to our country.”

Joe Biden will be 78 years old when he is inaugurated should he win November’s presidential election.

His age has led to some within the Democratic Party to speculate Senator Harris is being groomed to run as his successor in 2024 or even take over from Mr Biden during his first term in office.
