Coronavirus rule breakers threatened with jail

Serial coronavirus rule breakers will be thrown in prison for up to six months with NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller warning people not to gather in groups of three.

The stark warning by the state’s top cop came after Prime Minister Scott Morrison ramped up radical restrictions which now prevent Australians from leaving the house with more than two people.

“There are two (enforcement) measures and the $1000 on the spot fine was something I asked the premier for so we could deal with these matters quickly,” he said.

“We still have the ability to arrest someone and put them before the courts for six months jail.

“That is still an option for us and if we see people who are consistently not listening to the health messages, not listening to the law enforcement messages and the messages from the Premier and the Prime Minister then we can still put you before the court and you can face six months jail but we would much rather work with the community.”
