US President Donald Trump has bestowed American conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honour.
During the president’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, Melania Trump awarded the medal to a surprised Mr Limbaugh.
Mr Limbaugh, whose career spans five decades, recently revealed he was battling advanced lung cancer.
“Here tonight is a special man … thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to your country,” the president said.
Mr Trump said the radio personality was a “special man” who was the “greatest fighter and winner you will ever meet”.
While announcing the award, Mr Trump also highlighted the years of charitable work Mr Limbaugh had dedicated his life to.
