Police used pepper spray to disperse protesters who gathered in the streets to oppose Chinese extradition bill, in Hong Kong on Sunday. Guards were also seen pushing protesters away, as well as subduing some of them. The protest organisers claim that some 1,030,000 people have participated in the march, making it one of the largest rallies in the past three decades. However, according to police, there were 240,000 people “at its peak.” Critics fear that the proposed bill would undermine the city’s rule of law and leave many vulnerable to extradition to China for political crimes.
