Supporters of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange protested outside the ‘Global Conference for Media Freedom’ in London on Wednesday.
An activist criticised the conference saying: “The idea being that this is actually about defending media freedom is nonsense. This is a group of the rich and powerful basically agreeing that anyone who tells anyone what they’re up to should be imprisoned.”
Protesters could be seen holding signs reading: “Media Freedom, What About Assange?”
The WikiLeaks co-founder is currently serving a 50-week sentence for breaching bail conditions, will face a five-day US extradition hearing next February. He was indicted on 18 counts including charges under the Espionage Act.
