MPs reject Johnson’s second election bid

Dramatic events in the Commons sees Boris Johnson’s bid for a general election rejected, as MPs prioritise avoiding a no-deal Brexit.

In late-night proceedings, the House of Commons voted by 293 to 46 in favour of the prime minister’s motion calling for an early election on 15 October.
