Animal rights activists stage naked protest in Spain

Dozens of animal rights activists staged a naked protest in Barcelona city centre accusing the fashion industry of animal cruelty on Sunday.

Protesters from the group Anima Naturalis were filmed lying naked while covered by red sauce in Catalunya square to symbolise the slaughter and poor treatment of animals used in the production of fur and leather garments.

“Every year, more than 60 million animals are sacrificed for the leather industry to do business with their fur. In fur farms animals spend all their lives in small cages being gassed, electrocuted on an oral or anal way. During that moment, a lot of these animals are still alive, so they feel how their skin is removed from their bodies,” said Cristina Ibanez, the coordinator of Anima Naturalis in Barcelona.
